R.I.P.

Brother Vincent Kunert, of the Institute of the Marist Brothers passed away peacefully on 29 December 1999. Brother Vincent was born on 10 May 1917 in Gyor, Hungary. He joined the Brothers at an early age and made his novitiate in Heraclee, Greece in 1933. After his first profession on 5 October 1934, together with six other Brothers, he embarked at the French port of Marseilles and sailed for China. Soon after he reached China that year, he was assigned to St. Joseph’s Training House in the western hills of Beijing for a year to study language. A year later he was sent to St. Francis Xavier’s College, Shanghai to teach. After three years, he was transferred in 1938 to the Chinese Section of the College, where he remained until 1951. Then, he found his way to Hong Kong. At first he taught at Pooi Sun College for eight years, then in 1959 he started to teach at St. Francis Xavier’s College, Kowloon and in 1963 he became its Principal until 1972. From 1972 to 1974 he took charge of St. Francis Xavier’s School, Tsuen Wan for two years. In May 1976 at the invitation of the Hong Kong diocese he became the Supervisor of Newman College. He also served as superior of the Community and of the Brothers in Hong Kong from 1965 to 1972.

Brother was gentle and kind, easily accessible; often during recess, students would gather around him and chat with him sharing a joke or two. Apart from taking good care of the spiritual and academic aspects of the students, Brother was a keen sportsman too. In his early days, he used to play tennis and sometimes soccer. He was very much interested in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and encouraged students to take part in the scheme. He even became an assessor himself. As such, he often hiked miles to assess the members and went camping with his students.

Generally, Brother Vincent enjoyed good health. Only in the last few years of his life did he suffer from diabetes and for that he was hospitalised once in 1995 but only for a few days. In spite of his old age and his ailing legs he never failed to report to his office, sometimes on foot.

On 28 December he was taken to St. Teresa’s Hospital for some complications in his heart and lungs. The very next day, after receiving in full consciousness the consolation of the Anointing of the Sick and the Holy Viaticum, Brother Vincent was called to God's side for his eternal reward after 65 years of religious life.

聖母昆仲會顧鴻勳修士辭世

聖 母 昆 仲 會 顧 鴻 勳 修 士 於 一 九 九 九 年 十 二 月 廿 九 日 晚 病 逝 於 九 龍 聖 德 肋 撒 醫 院 ， 顧 修 士 於 一 九 一 七 年 五 月 十 日 生 於 匈 牙 利 ， 年 幼 即 入 聖 母 會 修 院 ， 一 九 三 四 年 於 希 臘 作 初 學 ， 初 願 後 與 其 他 六 位 修 士 ， 於 一 九 三 四 年 十 月 五 日 在 法 國 登 船 ， 起 程 來 中 國 傳 教 ， 抵 步 後 ， 首 被 派 往 北 京 西 山 聖 母 會 初 試 院 學 習 語 文 ， 次 年 赴 上 海 聖 芳 濟 書 院 任 教 ， 三 年 後 轉 往 聖 芳 濟 中 文 部 直 至 一 九 五 一 年 。

是 年 顧 修 士 輾 轉 到 香 港 ， 不 久 即 執 教 鞭 於 培 新 書 院 ， 後 被 調 往 九 龍 聖 芳 濟 書 院 任 教 ， 一 九 六 三 年 任 該 校 校 長 ， 一 九 七 二 年 至 一 九 七 四 年 則 轉 任 荃 灣 聖 芳 濟 中 學 校 長 一 職 ， 一 九 七 五 年 五 月 蒙 教 區 邀 請 任 新 民 書 院 校 監 ， 歷 時 二 十 餘 年 。

顧 修 士 亦 曾 於 一 九 六 五 年 任 聖 芳 濟 會 院 院 長 及 香 港 區 會 長 一 職 。

聖 母 昆 仲 會 鍾 修 士 稱 ， 顧 修 士 為 人 和 藹 慈 祥 ， 頗 為 學 生 愛 戴 ， 每 逢 小 息 時 間 ， 學 生 即 擁 往 其 身 邊 傾 談 ， 在 任 時 期 諸 多 建 樹 ， 除 照 顧 學 生 學 業 及 品 德 外 ， 亦 十 分 注 重 學 生 體 育 的 培 訓 ， 早 年 曾 打 網 球 ， 甚 至 踢 足 球 ， 顧 修 士 極 力 推 崇 愛 丁 堡 獎 勵 計 劃 ， 鼓 勵 學 生 參 加 是 項 計 劃 ， 並 多 次 親 自 率 領 學 生 遠 足 、 登 山 和 露 營 。

修 士 向 來 享 有 健 康 體 格 ， 至 數 年 前 始 因 糖 尿 病 住 院 ， 數 日 後 出 院 ， 雖 然 年 歲 較 長 ， 且 雙 腳 腫 痛 ， 但 是 顧 修 士 仍 不 辭 辛 苦 ， 每 日 上 班 不 誤 ， 去 年 十 二 月 廿 八 日 突 覺 呼 吸 困 難 ， 隨 即 被 送 往 醫 院 診 治 ， 孰 料 次 日 即 蒙 主 寵 召 ， 享 年 八 十 二 歲 ， 在 會 六 十 五 年 。

聖 母 昆 仲 會 籲 請 眾 信 友 為 顧 修 士 祈 禱 。
